MEET OUR STAFF: PHYSICIANS


Dr. Susan Mahoney received her medical training at the University of Washington, and is board certified in Family Practice. She has practiced at Inter Island Medical Center since 1997. She enjoys visiting with extended family, swimming, and kayaking. She is a former Montessori teacher. Dr. Mahoney enjoys seeing patients of all ages, especially children, and is a certified FAA Examiner.


Dr. Michael Wingren joined IIMC staff in November, 2001. He received his M.D. from the University of Minnesota, and completed his residency at the UC San Diego Medical Center. He is board certified in Family Practice and also holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama. He served in the Peace Corps in Africa. Dr.Wingren has a special interest in Cardiology and Dermatology.


Dr. Rachel Bishop is a family physician, with an emphasis on the family, caring for children and their parents. She sees good communication as central to good care, with a focus on promoting health and wellness.

In addition to family practice, she has specialist training and experience in travel and tropical medicine, as well as expedition and mountain medicine. She is a frequent national and international speaker on these subjects.

She trained at the University of Leeds Medical School in the UK, graduating in 1991, and then completed 4 years of family practice residency training in a rural program in Northern England. She has been working for Group Health in Seattle since 2001. She completed a clinical teaching fellowship at the University of Washington in 2002.

Dr. Bishop is very excited to be joining our island community. She is married with two young children.


Dr. Douglas Tuttle worked in Emergency Medicine for 33 years in California and Montana. He received his M.D. from the University of Louisville, then completed his post graduate work in California. He and his wife have owned property on the island and have vacationed here for many years. They recently relocated to Friday Harbor on a more permanent basis. Dr. Tuttle is currently working at IIMC part time. When he is not taking care of our patients, he enjoys boating and spending time outdoors.


Dr. Loren Johnson is a board certified emergency physician. He and his wife Jill have had a home in Friday Harbor since 2004. He was raised in Seattle and completed college and medical school at the University of Washington. He has been a long-time leader in his field in California. His professional interests include health care consulting and public policy. His personal interests include marine habitat preservation, hiking, bicycling and enjoying nature with friends and family.


    Dr. Jim Litch is board certified in family medicine, and

    holds addtional qualifications in travel medicine, tropical

    medicine, and public health. He received his Doctor of

    Medicine from the University of Michigan. His interest in

    health care developed from his early professional life as a

    rescue specialist, emergency medical technician,

    firefighter, and mountain guide among the world's most

    remote areas. Dr. Litch is delighted to have settled in our

    island community with his wife, Dr. Rachel Bishop, two   sons, six chickens, and two sheep.


    Pat Davis is a board certified Physician Assistant whose

    background includes Primary Care and Emergency Medicine

    both in rural heatlhcare settings and major metropolitan

    facilities. Pat graduated from the University of North Dakota

    School of Medicine and Health Sciences. For the past two

    years, she has worked in the Emergency Department of the

    Veteran's Hospital in Tucson, AZ. Pat loves art and being

    outdoors. As a newbie to the island, she is excited to

    continue hiking, outdoor photography, and kayaking.
