Dr. Susan Mahoney received her medical training at the University of Washington, and is board certified in Family Practice. She has practiced at Inter Island Medical Center since 1997. She enjoys visiting with extended family, swimming, and kayaking. She is a former Montessori teacher. Dr. Mahoney enjoys seeing patients of all ages, especially children, and is a certified FAA Examiner.
Dr. Michael Wingren joined IIMC staff in November, 2001. He received his M.D. from the University of Minnesota, and completed his residency at the UC San Diego Medical Center. He is board certified in Family Practice and also holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama. He served in the Peace Corps in Africa. Dr.Wingren has a special interest in Cardiology and Dermatology.
Dr. Rachel Bishop is a family physician, with an emphasis on the family, caring for children and their parents. She sees good communication as central to good care, with a focus on promoting health and wellness.
In addition to family practice, she has specialist training and experience in travel and tropical medicine, as well as expedition and mountain medicine. She is a frequent national and international speaker on these subjects.
She trained at the University of Leeds Medical School in the UK, graduating in 1991, and then completed 4 years of family practice residency training in a rural program in Northern England. She has been working for Group Health in Seattle since 2001. She completed a clinical teaching fellowship at the University of Washington in 2002.
Dr. Bishop is very excited to be joining our island community. She is married with two young children.
Dr. Allan Johnson completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at University of Wisconsin in Madison. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Hyperbaric and Undersea Medicine. The first 12 years of his career were spent in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Virginia Mason, and has most recently worked at the Polyclinic in Seattle as a hospital based Internal Medicine Physician at Swedish Medical Center.
Dr. Johnson provides comprehensive care to the adult patient, with a focus and expertise on complicated medical issues including diabetes, coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatoid disease, and congestive heart failure.
Dr. Johnson and his family enjoy running, gardening, kayaking, boating, snowboarding, and scuba diving.
Dr. Douglas Tuttle worked in Emergency Medicine for 33 years in California and Montana. He received his M.D. from the University of Louisville, then completed his post graduate work in California. He and his wife have owned property on the island and have vacationed here for many years. They recently relocated to Friday Harbor on a more permanent basis. Dr. Tuttle is currently working at IIMC part time. When he is not taking care of our patients, he enjoys boating and spending time outdoors.
